Abbot rapid test maybe solution in Bahamas’ COVID fight

RAPID TESTING – As COVID variants are confirmed in the country and cases continue to rise, Abbot rapid test maybe solution in Bahamas’ COVD fight.

On the heels of the Ministry of Health’s announcement this past week, confirming the presence of the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 in The Bahamas, the Abbott Panbio is being touted as the testing solution for the country.

The Ministry of Health received results from FIOCRUZ Laboratory in Brazil highlighting evidence of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in The Bahamas.

According to the ministry’s statement, the National Reference Laboratory submitted 98 SARS – CoV-2 Virus – positive samples to the FIOCRUZ Laboratory for genomic sequencing.  The samples were collected between May 6, 2021, and August 8, 2021, from individuals on New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Exuma and Bimini.

The new sequencing results confirm that the Delta variant is the predominantly variant in The Bahamas, followed by the Alpha and Gamma variants.

As the COVID infection and related death count rises, major health facilities remain overwhelmed, and concerns mount among local residents and potential visitors to our shores, Dynamic Health Ltd, contracted with Transcontinental to import Abbott products to the Bahamas, continues to note the Abbott Panbio test as a core mitigation component.

According to Dynamic Health representatives, the Abbott Panbio test, among other scientific advantageous features, offers the best point of care test, 94 percent sensitivity, 99 percent specificity, detects the new COVID Delta variant and other COVID variants, 15 to 20 minutes to read the test, affordable price point, WHO and FDA approved and the production of Abbott Panbio test kits are available to The Bahamas upon demand in the millions.  The test is also approved by the Bahamas Reference Laboratory.

Health experts reportedly see the Abbott Panbio test as a strategic win for The Bahamas to save lives. Reputable entities continue to endorse the test and the ongoing testimonies could very well prove the Abbott Panbio the perfect fit at a most critical time during the present pandemic.

Local physicians note that rapid testing is useful in emergency situations; however, they suggest that following that test, when convenient, patients should also have a RT-PCR test.

A Dynamic Health spokesperson told media: “Faced with a general elections within days, be it the present government challenged with increasing cases and deaths and in search of sound solutions or the Official Opposition’s comprehensive plan marked by nationwide FREE testing, the Abbott test is internationally and locally approved and set for delivery on demand.”
