Primary school hoops heats up with Moon/Thompson tourney

The Moon McPhee/Cecil Thomspon Primary School Basketball League, powered by Grand Bahama Power, is back!

The tournament tips off today, February 6-9 at the St. George’s and Jack Hayward Gymnasiums.

Yearly, the tournament features the top boys and girls primary school teams in the nation. It also features two pools in each division.

Featured in pool A of the primary school boys division are: The Tabernacle Falcons (Grand Bahama), Lewis Yard Primary (GB), Maurice Moore Raccoons (GB), Jordan Prince Williams Falcons (New Providence), and Freedom Baptist (NP). Over in Pool B are the Walter Parker Pacers (GB), Mary, Star of the Sea Crusaders (GB), Temple Christian (NP), Teleos Christian (NP) and St. Thomas Moore (NP).

Present in Pool A for the primary school girls are; Xavier’s Lower School (NP), Temple Christian (NP), Mary, Star Crusaders (NP), and Lewis Yard Primary (GB). And highlighted in Pool B are St. Cecelia’s Catholic School (NP), Freedom Baptist (NP), Walter Parker Primary Pacers (GB) and the Bishop Michael Eldon Warriors (GB).

Getting the girls’ action started at the St. George’s Gymnasium at 3:30 p.m. will be the Crusaders when they take on Temple Christian. Set to follow that contest at 4:00 p.m. will be the Pacers taking on St. Cecilia’s. In boys’ action at 4:30 p.m. the Pacers will take on Temple Christian, while the Crusaders and Teleos Christian close out day one in the final contest at that gym at 5:00 p.m.

Over at the Jack Hayward Gymnasium, Lewis Yard will take on Xavier’s Lower School in primary school girls’ action starting at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Warriors taking on Freedom Baptist in final primary school girls tilt for the day at 4:00 p.m. In primary school boys’ action, the Falcons will go head-to-head with Freedom Baptist at 4:30 p.m. with the Raccoons left to take on JPW Falcons at 5:00 p.m.

Following Thursday’s slate of games, an opening ceremony will take place at the Goombay Land Skating Rink, Games tip off at 3:30 p.m. daily for the duration of the tournament.
