The Grand Bahama Champions Soccer League is back and the men and women’s teams are in full throttle on the road to Champions League glory.
The season kicked off April 23 at the YMCA. The action began with the Men’s Division taking the pitch first as Sanitation Services’ Borussia Dortmund took on Polymers’ Barcelona. In a wire to wire affair both teams played to a 1-1 draw. Tyler Bain put in Dortmund’s only goal for the tilt, while Barcelona’s Rodger DeSouza scored his team’s sole goal.
That following day at the YMCA (April 24) it was the ladies’ turn to put on a show, as Paradox’s Real Madrid faced off in a close game with Subway’s Barcelona. In the end it was the Tabernacle Falcons’ Most Valuable Player of the GBSSAA High School senior girls’ soccer championships, Janeka Edey, that lifted Real Madrid to the 1-0 victory over Barcelona.
That Thursday, April 25, in a Men’s Division match-up, FOCOL’s Real Madrid opened their season with a shutout victory over Municipal Motors’ Chelsea. Keano Miller and Kyle Charlton led Real Madrid with one goal each in their 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
Back on April 26, the Ladies’ Division juggernaut known as the Sanitation Services’ Borussia Dortmund wasted no time in putting away Pharachem’s Chelsea 3-0. Rhys Davies gunned for the hat trick for Dortmund but came up shy finishing with two goals in that contest. Meghan Smith also chipped in with one goal to lead defending champions.
In the final contest of week one (April 27), in the Ladies’ Division, Barcelona defeated Chelsea 1-0. Lillian Saunders led Barcelona scoring the only goal of the match.
Moving on to week two, which began May 4, the Borussia Dortmund ladies picked up where they left off in week one with another shutout victory. This time it came at the expense of Real Madrid. Dortmund took that match by a final score of 3-0, led by Gabrielle Simms, Kadicia Babb and Edissa Bain who scored one goal apiece.
Following that match the men of Real Madrid conquered Borussia Dortmund, 2-0. Heroin Newman and Errol Comarcho both led Real Madrid in the scoring column.
Finally, in the only game that Sunday, May 5 the men of Chelsea got one over on Barcelona with a 2-0 victory. Attwood Gibson and Nicholas Lane were the goal scorers for Chelsea.
Not games took place the weekend of Mother’s Day but the action picks up this coming Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19 at the YMCA.
That Saturday, the ladies of Barcelona will look to slow down Borussia Dortmund in their week three clash at 2:30 p.m. Following that contest Barcelona’s mens team will take on Real Madrid at 4:30 p.m.
On Sunday in ladies’ action Chelsea will look to knock off Real Madrid at 2:30 p.m., followed by the men of Chelsea facing off against Borussia Dortmund at 4:30 p.m.
