To birth is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as:
1a: the emergence of a new individual from the body of its parent
b: the act or process of bringing forth young from the womb
2: a state resulting from being born, especially at a particular time or place
Its synonyms include: have, bear produce, be delivered of, bring into the world, bring forth. As it relates to this year’s Women with Issues Conference theme, it speaks to individuals realizing their purpose in life, thereby bringing forth those gifts and talents the nation needs to be spiritually and economically productive.
Isaiah 54:1-5 declares, (1) “Sing, barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD. (2) “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. (3) For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities. (4) “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. (5) For your Maker is your husband - the LORD Almighty is his name - the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.”
The book of Isaiah 54 verses 1-5 is a powerful text that sheds light on the prophetic utterance of the prophet at a time when the people of God were free from Babylonian captivity but still suffering mentally and socially because of the degradation associated with life in captivity -Their hope was shattered; Dreams were crushed; Strength had failed.
Yet God waited for a period of time to pass before he truly stepped in to deliver them.
Just recently we celebrated Holy Week, whereby we relived the events of Christ’s death and resurrection.
• Because He lives we can face tomorrow
• Because He lives we don’t have to fear
• Because God holds the future our life is worth living
This is Birthing Season for the Church of the living God. What I like about how the prophet Isaiah goes about the summation of the church in Chapter 54 is the fact that he prepares us from previous chapters about the finished work of the cross. Very often we fail to realize that although the church:
• May appear to be struggling
• May appear to be defeated
• May appear to be forsaken
The reality is that we are not, because the church will always triumph over the enemy. Just as a cat always lands on its feet when it falls, the Church will rise above all adversity and birth victory.
You see Isaiah helps us to understand that the death of Christ is the life of the church and of all that truly belong to it. If we apply this to the state of the Jews after their return out of captivity, it is a prophecy of the increase of their nation after they were settled in their own land. Jerusalem had been in the condition of a wife described as childless, or a desolate solitary widow; but now it is promised that the city should be replenished and the country filled with people again.
Additionally, not only will the ruins of Jerusalem be repaired, but the suburbs of it extended on all sides and a great many buildings erected upon new foundations. Those estates which had for many years been wrongfully held by the Babylonian Gentiles should now return to the right owners. God will again be a husband to them, and the reproach of their captivity, and the small number to which they were then reduced, shall be forgotten. And it is to be observed that, by virtue of the ancient promise made to Abraham of the increase of his seed, when they were restored to God’s favor they multiplied greatly.
In the same way, God has committed to do the same for Grand Bahama. Our ruined city is about to be replenished and revived. The wealth stolen from the people shall be returned. We are about to encounter overflow and prosperity at all areas. For a long time, our people have been hurting and suffering. It had appeared that we were forgotten by God. Certainly, the state of barrenness has caused many to evacuate and some have died. Nevertheless, now is the season to give birth to purpose. The gifts, talents, dreams and visions God has placed in you must come forth to ensure the spiritual and economic climate of Grand Bahama is revitalized once again.
