A stronghold is a place, where the enemy can retreat and feel safe. It’s a place where the enemy can wait until we are not looking and then send out an attack to inflict pain and suffering.
Strongholds are difficult to bring down, but if victory is to be assured, if peace is to be established then strongholds must fall.
Satan is a master at building spiritual strongholds, he builds them in churches, he builds them in homes and he builds them in our lives. A spiritual stronghold is that place where you’ve gotten victory, but the moment you lay down your sword you fall again.
A spiritual stronghold in a church could be a controlling spirit. A spiritual stronghold in a home may be jealousy – a husband or wife, may be able to get it under control for a month or year or even two years and then, just when a sense of normalcy has returned to the home, jealousy comes out of the closet and attacks the marriage again. We cannot claim victory, we cannot claim peace and joy, and rest until the strongholds have come down and the enemy has been grinded beneath our heels like the snake he is. Strongholds have got to fall.
The promise Jesus gave to us as believers is that He would build His church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matt 16:18).
Strongholds will fall when we follow Jesus, who is the captain, into battle and put into action the strategic plans that He has given to us. In Joshua chapter 6, the scripture tells us that Jericho was daily shut up, because of the children of Israel; none went out and none came in. “And the Lord said unto Joshua see I have given unto thine hands Jericho and the king thereof and the mighty man of valor and ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war and go round about the city once.
“Thus shall thou do six days and it shall come to pass that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the walls of the city shall fall down flat.” In the book of Hebrews 11:30, it tells us by faith the walls of Jericho fell. This city loomed over the promise that God had given Israel.
There was no mistaking the fact that this stronghold had to come down. You know Satan is very good at camouflaging the spiritual strongholds … it may look harmless. How can it possibly hurt to add some movie channels to our cable services and you know that some of those movies are ungodly?
Satan likes to camouflage gossip as a prayer request; Satan is a master at hiding the strongholds in front of our noses and then laugh, because we can’t or won’t acknowledge that we have a problem. Satan lets us think that we have gained control over this thing that has been plaguing us, he makes you believe that you don’t have to declare war on this thing, we don’t have to fall on our faces in repentance and humility, we don’t have to pray harder, or fast.
He tells you that you don’t have to do any of those things, because he knows if you begin to pray, fast and repent you will gain grounds over him.
We have to flush the enemy out of his hole; put him on the run and bring him down, or else we can never truly enjoy peace, joy and rest until we are ready to bring down the strongholds of the enemy in our lives.
Walls have got to fall and God is our source of strength. God is more than able to bring down the strongholds, if we are willing to release them to Him. Hebrews 12:1 says, “Lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us;” that is the key to tearing down strongholds in our lives. Let go and let God have control of your life.
The truth is that we need Jesus. Joshua and Israel knew that they needed to hear from God if they had any hope of bringing down the strongholds. It was not their might that brought them out of Egypt, it was God. It wasn’t their power that separated the Red Sea, it was God and they knew their source of strength. Joshua went to God and God gave him the plan for success and that plan will work against the strongholds in your life.
Joshua got a word from the Lord. If God has a plan for your life then why not go to God, not the witchcraft worker nor the soothsayers, or the Obeah man, not the palm readers of hands, no go to God. God promised Joshua victory, He promised the same to you, but there is a condition to the promise of God that is called obedience; take instructions do as He say do. You have to talk the talk and walk the walk, and watch the strongholds in your life fall down flat. It shall come down; if God is for us, no man can be against us.
Do you know where the strongholds are in your life? They are those things that keep pulling you back and keeping you from progressing in God. We declare in Jesus name the strongholds shall come down and we shall go forth in God. For the weapons of warfare are not carnal, but are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. (2 Cor. 10:4)
Let us Pray: Father in Heaven we thank you for your grace and your mercies that are new every morning. We pray that you help us to identify the strongholds in our lives and release them over to you, so that you can break every chain God. Loose every weight that has been holding us down and keeping us from walking in righteousness and true holiness. We ask these things in name of your Son Jesus the Christ, Amen.
