A New You For A New Year!

Contributor: Minister Keith Evans

How many of us have gone ahead and made New year’s resolutions, and made vows to God? Going to church and making vows seems to be a juxtaposition or apposition for so many nowadays! Tradition continues to dominate us with no real substance!! We make vows and commitments, right?

But then January ends, and then comes February, March, April, and our New Year’s verbiage change, but slightly. No drastically! We have unwittingly superimposed a wreath of vows and commitments that are hard to keep. A panoply of plans and strategies to lose weight, attend church more often, get married, enhance ourselves academically, save more, etc.

I am a great protagonist and proponent for people willing to better themselves, and resolute in one’s benevolence and prowess. There is something that God definitely wants from the Body of Christ as He transitions us from 2018 towards 2019, it’s CHANGE! Something meaningful and not rickety, wonky, but substantive and tenacious. CHANGE! We jump, skip, dance, sing, shout and everything else with no recognizable change! Still fleshly and still carnal! Isaiah 43:19, “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” God is fluently expressing His desire to move on behalf of the Kingdom, or Body of Christ. God wants to make roads in our wilderness and rivers in our deserts. He wants to do some extraordinary things for the people of God.

Abundance of Growth for Kingdom advancement!! The conundrum is that we’re too complacent and spiritually lethargic. Too desensitized to the voice of God for the sake of stardom and money! Church after church opening, but where are the souls? Saved ones at that. Everyone wants to open up a new work, but did God ordain that?

One of the greatest threats to the Body of Christ is un-submissiveness! James 4:7, “ Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” I’m not insinuating that all new churches opening up are not functioning under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The problem is that we need to fill the ones that are open now before launching out to open new ones. 1 Kings 18:36, “ And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “ LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.” Notice that Elijah emphasized that it was at God’s strict direction for the showdown on Mount Carmel. And NOT SELF! Be submissive to God. There is order and structure within the kingdom.

Paul submitted himself in Acts 15 to James and the leadership at Jerusalem. Elisha submitted to Elijah in 1 kings 19. Joshua submitted to Moses, and David submitted to King Saul. Now concerning the aforementioned Elijah and Jezebel. Israel was at a very dark place spiritually! The nation was heavily influenced by the witchcraft of Queen Jezebel who was controlling the imbecile king Ahab. Such a putrid and rancid disposition Israel was in, with the peremptory control of Jezebel. Elijah, being guided by the Holy Spirit, called for a contest to expose the witches and warlocks operating in the nation overtly. God is calling for His people to stand with gumption and fortitude for what is right! CHANGE!! In order for the Body of Christ to properly function and to subsist, there must be CHANGE both collectively and individually!! God wants to fill us, but we must first empty ourselves of ourselves!

This is nothing more than Sanctification! Less of us, and MORE OF HIM! We have a proclivity to lean heavily to the past with a sense of nostalgic, rhapsodic feeling!! We have, much to the chagrin of the Church, allowed religious folks to filibuster the growth of the Church with their tautological, repetitious dogmas. We have rote on yesteryear and then some! What I am trying to adumbrate and intimate to you is our ineptitude in reaching a lost Bahamas for Jesus after years of independence. Crime and sexual immorality are still so implicitly prevalent in our Commonwealth, not to mention the churches. I gone!!!! A new you for a new year is still very plausible! Are you ready?
