Freeport Bible Church (FBC) on Norma Headley Drive, Freeport, will be celebrating its 41st anniversary on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.
A member of the Bahamas Evangelical Church Association, FBC was birthed by Rev. Edward Godet in 1976 with eight members. Over the years, while there were some fluctuation in membership at different intervals, the church continued to grow. From worshipping in an apartment building on Oleander Street, to the YMCA, to an apartment building on Jobson Avenue, to their own building on West Atlantic Drive (now Freeport Bible Academy) and then their current edifice on Norma Headley Drive, off West Atlantic, Freeport Bible has become a pillar of strength for many residents on Grand Bahama.
After establishing FBC in 1976, a few years later, Rev. Godet and his family moved back to Nassau where he Pastored Carmichael Bible Church. In the interim, for approximately 17 months Rev. Samuel Mc. Lamb of South Carolina, pastored FBC.
In 1987 Rev. Wilbur Outten was appointed as senior pastor. It was under his leadership that the church saw tremendous growth, with a current membership of over 400 and many others as followers of the church. After 30 years of dedicated service as Senior Pastor of FBC, pastor Outten died in January of this year.
Following the death of pastor Outten, pastor Karol Roache, who served as Assistant Pastor to pastor Outten for 18 years, was appointed as interim senior pastor and pastor Kyle Maycock as interim Assistant Pastor.
Anticipating continued growth in membership, in the members’ walk with the Lord and in winning souls for Christ, the church’s theme for this year’s anniversary month is, “His faithfulness continues to all generations!” Psalms 100:5.
