Commanded Blessings

When we honor God with our lives, God will command His blessings upon us. In the book of Psalm 133:3 it reads, “…as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”

Hence, there is a commanded blessing for your life. Just as in the book of Genesis when God commanded light to come forth and it was so, it is the same way He commands His blessings towards us. However, only you can stop God’s blessings over your life. As we look in the scriptures, we see that God commanded blessings in three main areas of our lives. One of the areas is ‘giving,’ as mentioned in the book of Malachi 3:10 where God tells us to, “Bring…all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

The second area is ‘unity’. When we as believers walk together in unity, God will command a blessing. Hebrews 6:18 says, “…it was impossible for God to lie…” He added an oath as an additional layer of promise, the writer calls these “two immutable things” unchangeable. Therefore, everything we know changes but God cannot change. He cannot be added to or subtracted from. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the Lord, I change not…” Thus, the commanded blessing of the Lord is forever sure.

God says in Mark 11:24 (NIV), “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” So if we as God’s peculiar people are given that power when we speak, imagine the one who created us? God who made the heavens and the earth can speak any blessing upon us and we shall receive it.

The third area God commands His blessing is in ‘obedience’. We all know the scripture that says “Obedience is better than sacrifice” and here’s why. In Deut. 28:1-2 & 8 it says, “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands…the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God…The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”

Isn’t this an amazing thing? If we can just give and live in unity along with walking in obedience to God’s Holy Word we can have the blessings of the Lord upon us. I know for sure that I want to receive all the blessings God has in store for me. How about you? And now that you know what is required of you, will you allow your blessings to cease?

Let us pray: Dear God, we thank you for this day. We thank you that we can stand on your word and depend on you to remain the same yesterday, today and forever. Thank you for your promises and the blessings you have in store for us. Help us to ready ourselves to receive them by giving, walking in unity and being obedient in following your commandments, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
