At this critical moment in our history, thank you for affording me the opportunity to share my thoughts in your daily.
As I sit here, on this election eve, I ponder where we’ve been, where we are now, and where we are headed. This election will be a defining moment for our island, and our country – a moment that will determine if Grand Bahama finally reaches its untapped potential.
Having spent a great deal of time helping others and working to progress Grand Bahama Island, I can say, without hesitation, that the
Progressive Liberal Party, is by far, the best choice to lead this island over the next five years.
The aggressive agenda of the Perry Christie-led administration, over the past five years, can be described as revolutionary, and with our ‘political-blockers’ off, credit should be given where it is due.
If we are honest with ourselves, Grand Bahama Island was in a terrible state, and given very little attention, during the period 2007 – 2012.
When the records of the FNM 2007 – 2012 administration and the PLP 2012 – 2017 administration are compared, the PLP triumphs. When it is all said and done, and this PLP administration’s work on Grand Bahama Island during 2012 – 2017 is archived in the annals of history, all fair-minded people will truthfully say, “A job well-done!”
The PLP’s achievements thr-oughout The Bahamas, and on Grand Bahama Island, in particular, should not be downplayed for political gain. In spite of the state this island was in, prior to when the PLP assumed office in 2012, when the previous administration was spending $500M more than it was earning; coupled with two catastrophic hurricanes, Joaquin and Matthew; we are in a far better position than we were five years ago.
It is, however, sad to see how propaganda and outright lies have gained so much traction, in this era of social-media. The recent U.S. 2017 Election ‘Fake News’ style, is quite evident, in this Bahamas 2017 election season. I see the rhetoric on many social media pages. Postings including “no new school,” “no Fishing Hole Bridge,” “no fire station,” “no new cruise port,” are frequent, when all can see that these either exist, or are in progress. And no, these are not ‘just being done for votes.’ On the contrary, funding, as well as adequate process is needed to get to the point of execution of any major project. Further, the natural disasters and the need to stabilize our islands in their aftermath required a shift in priorities.
As many are aware, I did apply to become a candidate for the Progressive Liberal Party. Although this did not materialize, I can emphatically say that the standard bearer of the PLP for Central Grand Bahama is a man of great character, integrity, and ability. I therefore appeal to my family and friends, the young people, the prayer-warriors, the entrepreneurs, my colleagues and associates, FNMs, DNAs, PLPs, and a-political people who supported me, to support my friend, Julian Bedell Russell, who will work tirelessly on your behalf. I will be there to give him my support, as we work together to build a stronger Central Grand Bahama; a stronger Grand Bahama; and a stronger Bahamas!
Let’s ensure that an administration that is committed to ‘people-focused’ policies is returned as the Government of The Bahamas. Let’s ensure that progress is not ‘stopped, reviewed, and cancelled’. On May 10th, join me and vote PLP to continue to progress Grand Bahama Island.
Forward | Together |
