Introducing the remaining Grand Bahamian CARIFTA Athletes

The 2017 FLOW CARIFTA Games are just two days away and The Freeport News will like to introduce or reintroduce some of the athletes out of Grand Bahama that will travel to Curacao in hopes of building on the country’s third place finish last year.

 

The 65 members of Team Bahamas were ratified on April 2, and of that number, 11 of athletes hail from Grand Bahama. Earlier this week we introduced athletes Kennedy Culmer, Bryant Lowe, D’Ajonae Jayawardana and Holland Martin. Today we present the remaining athletes.

 

Javan Martin

Division: Under 20

School: Tabernacle Baptist 

Christian Academy

Track Club: Speed Begins

Event: 100/4x100 meters

Experience: This will be Martin’s fourth year making the team. Last year Martin assisted the Under 20 boys who won the silver in the 4x100m. He also competed in the 100m but did not medal.

 

Quanisha Marshall

Division: Under 20

School Bishop Michael 

Eldon School

Track Club: Invictus

Event: 800m/4x400m 

 

Experience: This is Marshall's second appearance on the CARIFTA team. Last year, Marshall brought the bronze medal home for the Bahamas in the girls’ Under 18 800m race. 

 

Correy Sherrod

Division: Under 18

School: Tabernacle Baptist 

Christian Academy

Track Club: Speed Begins

Event: 400m

Experience: This will be Sherrod's second appearance for Team Bahamas. Last year he and the under 18 boys missed out on the medal podium for the 4x400m.

 

Johnathan Smith

Division: Under 20

School: Tabernacle Baptist 

Christian Academy

Track Club: Invictus 

Event: 100m/4x100m

 Experience: This is Johnny’s third time being enlisted to the team. He missed on a medal in the under 18 boys’ 100m dash but helped the under 18 boys team secure a silver medal in the 4x100m.

 

Tyrell Simms

Division: Under 18

School: St. George’s 

High School

Track Club: Golden Eagles

Event: 800m

Experience: This is Simms first time being named to the CARIFTA team.

 

Shaquille Higgs

Divison: Under 18

School: Tabernacle Baptist 

Christian Academy

Track Club: Speed Begins

Event: 4x100/4x400m

Experience: This is Shaquille’s second time named to the team. Last year he helped the under 18 boys land the silver medal in the 4x100m.

 

Devine Parker

Division: Under 18

School: St. Anne’s (hails from 

Grand Bahama)

Event: 100m/200m

Experience: This is Parker’s second year named to the team. Parker was a part of the under 18 girls quartet that won silver in the 4x100m.
