The Rotaract Club of Freeport recently partnered with ALIV to treat staff and residents of the Home Away from Home to a Post-Thanksgiving and Pre-Christmas Feast on the grounds of the senior citizens’ home.
Residents of the home were delighted to see the young members of the Rotaract Club of Freeport, a division of Rotary Clubs International, as well as members of the ALIV team.
Kiara Jones, Vice President and President-Elect of the Rotaract Club of Freeport acknowledged that as Rotary International’s motto is service above self, they were more than happy to, once again, give back to the seniors on the island in such a way.
“Every year, the Rotaract Club of Freeport gives back to the community during the Thanksgiving season. Last year we did the same thing with the Home Away from Home. We know that Ms. Mervie Knowles really needed the help and truly appreciated it. This year we reached out to Aliv and asked if they would be able to assist.
“They responded saying that they were more than happy to, giving more than we could have ever asked for. Talia Wildgoose and Allison Levarity of Aliv were extremely helpful. They said that whenever we need help on service projects that they are always willing to help.”
Jones noted that the Rotaract Club of Freeport has essentially, adopted the Home Away from Home and will continue to assist Knowles and her team in any way possible.
“I have been a member of the club for three years and we have been assisting the Home since we started. The Rotaract Club of Freeport currently has about 30 members.”
Wildgoose, Aliv Media and Community Champion said that the Aliv team is always more than happy to assist organizations such as the Rotaract Club of Freeport and other like-minded civic groups, whenever possible.
“At Aliv we want to make sure that our elderly are well taken care of, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. We saw fit to work along with the Rotaract Club of Freeport and prepare lunch for the residents here at Home Away from Home. Aliv also made donations so that this wonderful feast could take place.
“We are always willing and excited to work along with the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs, and to be a part of making the elderly in our community feel comfortable, feel loved and feel happy. We just want to spread some love to them today,” Wildgoose added.
“It was such a pleasure to work along with Kiara Jones and the entire Rotaract Club of Freeport, to interact with them and see what it is that they do, because they too give a lot back to the community as well … that is what the Aliv brand is all about.”
Knowles, Home Away from Home director, shared her appreciation to the members of the Rotaract Club of Freeport as well as the Aliv team for their kind gesture.
“God has been good in blessing His people. I thank God for them (Rotaract Club of Freeport and Aliv), taking the time out and sharing this Thanksgiving with us here at the nursing home. The Lord said that love chases away a multitude of sins and when we feel love, we feel everything that the world has to offer.
“By doing this and sharing the joy of food and their presence here with us, is truly a blessing. I cannot thank them enough.”
Knowles said that she presently houses 21 persons at the Home and two persons in the Day Care Program, bringing the combined total of 23 persons, cared for at the Home.
