The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Grand Bahama Branch received a monetary donation from the Miss Bahamas World Organization (MBO) this past Thursday (July 5), one which president of the local branch, Loraine Miller, noted was very timely.
Newly crowned queen, Serena Greene, visited the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Grand Bahama branch to present the organization with a check.
“It was very important for me to come here today to make this presentation because we know the work that the Cancer Society does, just to uplift and support the women (and men) that fight this deadly disease. I am very honored to be able to present this check to them today, on behalf of the MBO,” said the beauty queen.
Greene acknowledged that presentations such as the one made to the Cancer Society of The Bahamas is nothing new to the MBO, and they will continue to do so, as one of their mandates.
“Our platform and our goal is to definitely go out into the community and give back. This is one way that we are doing that, by giving our support and our funds to the Cancer Society.”
Questioned how her new reign has been thus far, Greene revealed that she is truly enjoying every minute of it.
“I have held the Miss World Grand Bahama title since March of this year. It has been amazing. I competed in the Miss World Bahamas pageant last month. It is still quite fresh and new but has been a wonderful experience, and I would not change it for the world.
Miller thanked Greene and the MBO for the donation.
“Definitely we are always excited to collect funds because the funds help us to help persons who are inflicted with cancer.
“When the MBO and Miss World Grand Bahama reached out to us and said that they wanted to make a donation, we were so excited and happy, because the funds are really needed. We are elated today, to be able to accept this donation.”
Miller took the opportunity to make an appeal to others within the community, whom wish to, and, are in a position to make a contribution to the Society, to please do so.
“We are always calling on corporate Bahamas, to come on board and step in and up to the plate and help by donating. Persons are always coming in, looking for assistance so we are always wanting persons to come on board, no matter how small or big the donation may be; we can use it. We can also use your time and of course, we can use your finances. We thank the MBO, very much for this kind gesture,” said the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, Grand Bahama Branch President.
