Bahamas Immigration Officers reportedly foiled attempts of Brazilian nationals planning to illegally enter the Unites States, maintained Napthali Cooper Bahamas Immigration Department Grade One Officer, who informed this daily on the matter on Friday, February 9.
Cooper said that on Thursday (February 8) morning acting on information received relative to Brazilians residing at an apartment on ‘ Way who were making preparatory steps to be smuggled into the United States by boat, Immigration officers were dispatched to investigate the matter.
Upon arrival at the address two Brazilian males were discovered and upon examination of their passports, it was revealed that both entered The Bahamas legally and were admitted for a period of 10 days, which had since expired.
The men were then taken into custody and transported to Immigration headquarters for further processing.
According to Cooper, at headquarters the men admitted that they left Brazil sometime early December 2017 and travelled to The Bahamas via the Dominican Republic and Providenciales, with the intention of getting to the United States. The men were flown to New Providence to be held at the Detention Center until repatriated to Brazil.
Cooper added that on Tuesday, February 6 Immigration officers responded to information relative to a female Jamaican national residing illegally in The Bahamas in a community in East Grand Bahama.
It was discovered that the female had considerably overstayed her visitor’s status given upon her initial arrival.
She, too, was taken into custody and transported to headquarters for further processing and later transported to Nassau to be detained at the Detention Center until repatriated to Jamaica.
