In a statement late Tuesday (September 10) afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister K. Peter Turnquest, Minister of Finance and East Grand Bahama MP said, he has monitored the Equinor oil spill since its occurence.
As a result of Hurricane Dorian ravaging East End last week, there was an oil spill at Equinor (Statoil), which many believed would threaten the island's water table.
However, Turnquest noted that early assessments indicate that there is no cause for alarm.
The DPM added that he remains in touch with the public and private sector environmental experts and East Grand Bahama residents.
He also confirmed that an official statement on the oil spill will be issued today, September 11.
