CL and H Services Ltd., Flying High Promotions and Kiwanis Club of Nassau AM, recently partnered up to host the first ever Back-to-School Giveaway and Fun Day on Saturday, July 28.
Cara Gallagher, CL and H Services Ltd. CEO and Ricky Martin, Flying High Promotions CEO invited members of the Falcon Boys’ Club (FBC), Reach Out Youth Organization (ROYO) Grand Bahama Children’s Home (GBCH) and Columbus House for Boys and Girls to enjoy the event that was orchestrated specifically for them.
One hundred and fifty boys and girls ranging between the ages of five to 18 years old indulged on all the treats offered inclusive of deliciously grilled hotdogs and hamburgers, juices, chips and cookies as well as, dancing, playing trivia games and jumping around in the bouncing castles.
According to Gallagher, “To whom much is given much is required and indeed it is an honor and privilege to partner with Mr. Martin to put forth this event for the children affiliated with the various organizations that were invited to enjoy a day specifically designed with them in mind.
“Throughout my life I have faced, endured and thankfully triumphed over many challenges and I wanted to give back especially after observing Mr. Martin and all he has done over the years in terms of donating to the GBCH.
“I contacted him and told him that two heads are better than one, hence we decided to collaborate by donating backpacks filled with school supplies not only to the GBCH but also Falcon Boys’ Club (FBC), Reach Out Youth Organization (ROYO) and Columbus House for Boys and Girls.
“Initially, we had hoped to touch the lives of approximately 60 children but that number increased to 150 and each backpack contains essentials for primary and secondary school students inclusive of pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, geometry sets, pencil cases, scissors, crayons, markers, highlighters, mini staplers, glue sticks, folders and exercise books.
“Our goal was to do all we could for the children and we were keen on ensuring that what we provided for them in the same manner we would for our own children.
“We are so grateful that the Kiwanis Club of Nassau AM also decided to partner with us as well and it is surely a pleasure to have D’Andrea Davis, Kiwanis Youth Service Chair travel from New Providence to lend a helping hand and everything is running smoothly.”
Amazed by the outpouring of love and kindness displayed, FBC Director Darrin Rolle; ROYO Founder Dudley Seide; GBCH Executive Director Sheila Johnson-Smith and Department of Social Services Chief Welfare Officer Patrice Mack, all thanked Gallagher and Martin whom they noted are two young Grand Bahama small business owners whose efforts with the Back-to-School Giveaway & Fun Day should be emulated.
Cognizant of the state of the local economy and the financial strain many parents whose children are members of FBC, ROYO and other youth organizations have to endure as well as the constant assistance that should be given to the GBCH that cares for abused, abandoned and neglected children, Rolle like Seide, Johnson-Smith and Mack noted that the donations could not have come at a more opportune time, as summer break is quickly coming to a close and back-to-school preparations are already underway.
“Definitely it is important that companies like CL and H Services Ltd. and Flying High Promotions as well as civic organizations such as the Kiwanis Club of Nassau AM work together and giveback to those in the community.
“Both Ms. Gallagher and Mr. Martin are young businesspersons, who have sought to touch the lives of the youth of Grand Bahama and many of these children’s parents and/or guardians are the ones who patronize their businesses.
“Of course, this not the first time these companies are giving back to the community as they have done so throughout the year on a more private basis, however they have teamed up in this initiative and are being a blessing to 150 children and their parents, who can rest a bit easy in terms of preparing their kids for the return to the classroom.
“We are so thankful that they are bringing smiles to the faces of these children, they have ensured that they are all well fed and are enjoying themselves.
“We pray God’s continued blessing upon them and hope this inspires and motivates other young Bahamian entrepreneurs, businesspersons and those with a charitable heart to give back in this community,” declared Rolle.
Holding firmly to the adage, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” Martin barely maintained his composure as he stood back and watched the children enjoying themselves at the Back-to-School Giveaway and Fun Day.
Grateful to have the partnership of Gallagher, Martin and his wife Shervonne, he revealed that they are elated to have the opportunity to not only donate but be more hands on with the event and to interact with the children in attendance.
“The work that Mr. Rolle, Mr. Seide, Mrs. Johnson-Smith and Ms. Mack do on a daily basis as it relates to positively impacting the lives of our little darlings throughout this community is indeed amazing.
“Personally, for my wife and I, this is a dream come true as we always wanted other companies/businesses to partner with us in giving back to the children throughout the Grand Bahama community, particularly those whose parents and/or guardians could use a helping hand.
“As many are aware Flying High Promotions always gives back to the GBCH as well as other organizations but today thanks to Ms. Gallagher of CL & H Services Ltd., we have expanded our reach; she saw the vision I had and decided to partner with us in this endeavor.
“As local small business owners and entrepreneurs we believe it is important that we come together and do something such as this and we encourage others to do the same, either partnering with us or starting something similar, all on their own but ensuring that they help as many young persons as well as the elderly.
“Together with each of us pitching in we can certainly positively impact the lives of many across Grand Bahama and that is what this is all about, lending a helping hand, setting the right example for our youth to follow.
“This is only going to get bigger from here and Ms. Gallagher, Shervonne and I plan to make this an annual event, we thank Ms. Davis for also coming on board to lend assistance too,” declared the Flying high Promotions CEO.
Equipped with the concept that each one, reach one, as well as understanding that together everyone achieves more, Seide, Johnson-Smith and Mack all thanked CL and H Services Ltd., Flying High Promotions and Kiwanis Club of Nassau AM pronouncing a hundred-fold blessing on each while once again encouraging others to follow their example.
