Hilton at Resorts World Bimini host two-day Career Fair in GB

 Grand Bahamians took advantage of the two-day Career Fair hosted by Hilton at Resorts World Bimini on Monday and Tuesday (January 16 and 17)

Residents of Grand Bahama were offered an abundance of job opportunities that are available at the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini, during a two-day Career Fair this week.  


Persons were able to apply for jobs on Monday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 17 at the Pelican Bay Hotel.


Speaking with Leslie Carroll, Human Resources Manager of Hilton at Resorts World, this daily learned that the recruitment exercise was to fill immediate positions. 


“What we’re doing today is conducting a job fair and it’s basically so that we can fill immediate positions. In addition to the immediate positions, which are about 36 in total, we are looking to build a bank or a talent pool as we refer to it,” she explained.


Carroll stated that they are hoping to fill the positions as quickly and efficiently as possible. Those positions include: housekeeping, housemen, food and beverage, chef de parties, sous chef, air condition technicians, engineers, servers, bussers, spa therapists, barista, bartenders, laundry technicians and security officers.  Carroll noted that all the positions were not limited to the Hilton, as that is just one of the resort’s property.


“We also have a boutique casino, so we’re also offering positions in the casino,” she added, listing other properties, including the marina, the hotel and resort itself and several others. 


She revealed that this was the first job fair the Hilton has conducted since 2013.  Last year when the Hilton officially opened, they went to New Providence. 


According to Carroll, they believed coming to Grand Bahama would be productive, considering many hotel employees are out of a job because of Hurricane Matthew.


The fair started at 7:30 a.m. and ended at 5:00 p.m., and despite the long hours Carroll, admitted that the turnout was not what they expected.  


“However, what I can say and what I’m truly excited about is the quality of applicants that we’re seeing,” she said, explaining the application process.


She stated that once a person has attended the fair and eligibility has been determined, they move on to the interview portion.  


Then, once an applicant is identified as someone whom the company would like to move forward with, they conduct various background and security checks. Once the applicant passes that process, the Hilton contacts that person and makes them an offer. Afterwards they would move into the transition of relocation to Bimini. 


Carroll added that the Hilton is excited to give opportunities to residents on the island, especially individuals who were affected by Matthew.  


“I know Grand Lucayan and Memories were affected, so I thought this would be a good market to tap into,” she noted.


Carroll said that they are definitely going to host another career fair next year, but have not decided which island as yet.
